Quarterly Report on the political situation in Georgia and related foreign malign influence – Issue 7

The following quarterly report (ISSUE 7)  offers a quick summary of Georgia’s political crisis and its developments from October to December 2021. Since the local elections in October 2021, the crisis has been deepened. The appointment of the supreme judges and the setbacks in the judiciary and the rule of law disappointed Georgia’s Western partners. Furthermore, Mikheil Saakashvili, the former president of Georgia, and his arrival further increased already existing political polarization in the country. Since the events described in the previous quarterly report, the given report presents an ongoing political impasse in Georgia and highlights significant changes.
