In December, a women’s networking event was held with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Wendy R. Sherman.
The event was organized by the U.S. Embassy in Prague to celebrate the legacy of Madeleine Albright and women in foreign policy with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Wendy R. Sherman and was attended by more than 50 women (representatives of NGOs, Czech government institutions, diplomatic corps, etc.).
At the opening, Ms. Wendy R. Sherman gave a brief speech on the importance of protecting the principles of democracy, human rights, and civil freedoms, especially during Russia’s aggressive war against Ukraine. Deputy Secretary of State recalled Madeleine Albright’s significant contribution to strengthening democratic values and her personal support for women’s rights around the world. She also stressed the Czech Republic’s considerable contribution during the presidency of the EU Council. Madam Sherman underlined Prague’s incredibly prompt assistance to thousands of refugees from Ukraine. After the opening remarks, Ms. Wendy R. Sherman answered the participants’ questions about the security of the European continent and possible scenarios for ending the war in Ukraine.
