On February 25th, 2025, European Values Center Taiwan Office and People in Need organized a screening of “Незламні – One Mission, Four Lives” followed by a panel discussion about Taiwan-Ukraine cooperation.
The documentary showcases the story of four People in Need volunteers assisting Ukrainian people who were internally displaced in the Russian war of aggression and continue to suffer from physical and mental health challenges. At the same time, the production sends a message of hope, amplifying the voices of ordinary Ukrainians who have shown extraordinary resilience in defending their homeland.
In his opening remarks, Taiwan’s National Security Council Secretary-General Dr. Joseph Wu emphasized that the situation happening in Ukraine is not an isolated struggle against authoritarian expansionism, but rather, “a shared battle for the values that define the free world”.
During the post-screening panel, International Cooperation and Development Fund Deputy Secretary-General Peifen Hsieh remarked, “There is no winner in a war.” Hsieh emphasized the challenge of poverty in Ukraine and the importance of humanitarian assistance. Since the start of the Russian full-scale invasion, many families have had to resort to subsistence farming as employment opportunities dry up, and able-bodied males were sent to the frontlines. Hsieh emphasized that Taiwan is ready to cooperate with more agencies aiming to help those in need, as well as reiterating Taiwan’s commitment to supporting Ukraine amid its humanitarian challenge.
