Markéta Pekarová Adamová served as the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Parliament of the Czech Republic, between November 2021 and October 2025. Her areas of expertise include human rights, social affairs, economics and foreign policy. In 2023, she led a historic, 150-strong delegation to Taiwan which resulted in over 11 cooperation pacts between the Czech Republic and Taiwan. A strong supporter of closer ties between both countries, Mrs. Pekarová Adamová received the first-class Medal of Honor for Parliamentary Diplomacy of the Legislative Yuan. During this visit, Markéta Pekarová Adamová also officially opened the Czech Hub in Taiwan, a joint project of European Values and the Czech – Taiwanese Business Chamber.
Pekarová Adamová began her political career in 2009 when she joined TOP 09, affiliated with the European People’s Party (EPP), and quickly rose through the ranks. She served as the party’s leader between 2019 and 2025.
She was a Member of the Chamber of Deputies since 2013, securing re-election in 2017 and 2021. In the lower house of parliament, she held, among other things, the following positions: Vice-Chair of the Committee on Social Policy (2017-2021) and Chair of the Subcommittee on Human Rights (2014-2017).
Her political career began in 2010 in local government, when she was elected to the Municipal Council and soon after to the Prague 8 City Council, where she served until 2014 as Councilor for Social Affairs and European Funds.
She holds a Master’s degree in Economics and Management in Industry from the Czech Technical University in Prague and a Bachelor’s degree in Andragogy and Personnel Management from Charles University in Prague.
Outside of her political work, Pekarová Adamová has a strong commitment to volunteerism, having worked in orphanages in Armenia and Morocco and participated in environmental projects in Scotland.
