On October 7, 2024, the European Values Center for Security Policy hosted the European Opinion Leaders Delegation at the Czech Hub in Taiwan. Nine experts from across Central and Eastern Europe shared their insights and discussed the current dynamics of Taiwan-EU relations, focusing on economic relations and people-to-people ties.
Marcin Jerzewski, Head of the EVC Taiwan Office, remarked that current Taiwan-EU relations remain dynamic, including a newfound focus on economic diplomacy over the emphasis on normative alignment and innovation in engagements through non-diplomatic channels such as parliamentary and subnational diplomacy. Taiwan’s national security strategy, the New Southbound Policy, and economic security were also discussed.
The European Values Center for Security Policy and the Czech-Taiwanese Business Chamber established the Czech Hub in Taiwan to enhance exchanges between Taiwan and Europe. In the spirit of “Czechia as a Hub,” we strive to encourage more bottom-up engagement between Taiwan and other Central and Eastern European countries, which includes hosting and facilitating visits from European delegations to Taiwan for meaningful discussions on crucial issues relevant to both regions.
