Czech Hub Event with CEIAS: “Echoes and Resistance: China’s Discourse Power and Public Perceptions in Central Europe”

On August 4, 2025, the Central European Institute of Asian Studies (CEIAS) and the European Values Center Taiwan Office co-hosted a seminar at the Czech Hub in Taiwan, marking the launch of CEIAS’s latest report, Echoes and Resistance: China’s Discourse Power and Public Perceptions in Central Europe.

During the event, panelists Marcin Jerzewski from the European Values Center for Security Policy and Matej Šimalčík from the Central European Institute of Asian Studies presented the results of a comprehensive analysis of China-related narratives on major social media platforms in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia. Using a unique corpus of data collected via the Gerulata Juno platform, they identified the most prominent narratives, traced their origins, and examined the tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) employed in their articulation and dissemination, along with the key actors and networks involved. The discussion further explored links between these actors and state-affiliated entities of the People’s Republic of China, highlighting their role in shaping public discourse.

The panelists also shared findings from large-scale public opinion polls conducted in the four countries, assessing the extent to which these narratives have been accepted beyond the online information space.

This seminar formed part of the project “Investigating China-related Narratives in the Central European Information Space” implemented by CEIAS in cooperation with Matej Bel University, with support from the European Media and Information Fund (EMIF) managed by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.
