The European Values Center for Security Policy Taiwan Office released a new report on the implementation of the European Union’s Global Gateway initiative in the Indo Pacific. Authored by its analysts Marcin Jerzewski and Dr. Olimpia Kot and commissioned by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation Multinational Development Policy Dialogue Program, the study examines the implementation of this flagship connectivity initiative in Fiji and Vietnam, with a focus on local stakeholder engagement and opportunities to strengthen EU engagement with like-minded partners in the development space.
The report also explores convergence between the EU and key Indo-Pacific partners, including Japan, the Republic of Korea, Australia, Aotearoa New Zealand, and Taiwan, and offers targeted policy recommendations to enhance regional cooperation and the EU’s strategic visibility. Based on fieldwork and nearly 50 expert interviews conducted in Suva, Hanoi, Brussels, Seoul, and Tokyo, it provides a grounded assessment of the EU’s flagship “positive offer” in the region.
