The European Values Center for Security Policy (EVC) Taiwan Office hosted a working breakfast with Dr. Paco Milhiet, Visiting Fellow at the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS) and the inaugural Taiwan Fellowship scholar hosted by EVC under the auspices of Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Drawing on his research on France’s Indo-Pacific strategy, Dr. Milhiet discussed Taiwan’s place within France’s evolving approach to the region and the security, economic, and diplomatic considerations shaping France’s approach in the Indo-Pacific.
The discussion then broadened to examine how France’s approach relates to wider European cooperation with Taiwan. Participants explored areas of convergence and difference among France, Czechia, other EU member states, and European institutions, as well as the political and institutional constraints affecting closer cooperation.
The working breakfast brought together academic and practitioner perspectives to consider how complementary national and EU-level approaches can contribute to more coherent and sustainable European cooperation with Taiwan. The discussion also explored practical opportunities for stronger coordination between Taiwan and its European partners in the Indo-Pacific.
