On October 28, 2025, Olimpia Kot, EVC Taiwan Office Senior Project Coordinator, delivered a guest lecture at Tamkang University on the nexus of social resilience and Taiwanese Indigenous peoples’ social movements.
The session provided an overview of key developments in Indigenous movements in Taiwan, including land rights initiatives, cultural and linguistic revitalization efforts, and recent forms of political and community organizing. Kot also discussed how natural disasters—such as typhoons and landslides—disproportionately affect Indigenous communities, shaping local governance, community resilience strategies, and broader political mobilization. She further outlined how Indigenous identities from Taiwan are framed or referenced in the People’s Republic of China, and how these narratives differ from those found in Taiwan.
