Mariia Kovach-Butsko

Mariia Kovach-Butsko has experience as a media expert and communications manager with Ukraine’s Ministry of Culture and Information Policy. Mariia holds a Specialist degree in Journalism from Uzhgorod National University and a Master’s degree in Foreign Policy with honors from the Diplomatic Academy under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the NATO-Ukraine Professional Development Programme. In 2020 she worked as the Communications Manager to provide Strategic Communications Support to the Cabinet Ministers of the Ukraine Project after serving as the Press Secretary of the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine. Previously, Mariia held management and fellowship positions with the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister on European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine, as well as the EU project “Association 4U”. She has worked as a consultant and lecturer with the Institute of Political Education and the Canada-Ukraine Regional Governance and Development Project. Mariia Kovach-Butsko is a nonresident fellow at the Center for Defense Strategies, an independent Ukrainian analytical organization focusing on defense and security. Within the EVC’s Information Defense Hub, Mariia focuses primarily on Ukraine’s integration processes with the European Union, Ukraine-NATO dialogue, international relations, and the Russian disinformation narratives in Ukraine.
